Cedar rust on apple trees

Post by Lrpaul » Wed Mar 13, 2019 3:09 pm

What is the best product to use to control cedar rust on my apple tree?
Had dumb luck one year and it produced stayman apples, but can't remember what I used. Thanks for your help

The most effective product for cedar-apple and quince rusts on apple trees available to home fruit growers is Spectracide Immunox. I have found it at many Lowe's stores in Virginia. Apply it about every 10 days from early pink (pre-bloom) stage to 4 weeks after petal fall. It also control scab and powdery mildew. Cedar rust infection is occurring when you see the orange spores horns expanded on the cedar rust galls in your area.

Here is a link to Virginia Tech's home fruit spray schedule: https://www.pubs.ext.vt.edu/content/dam ... O-289C.pdf
See page 3-12 for the apple schedule. Also see Table 3.1a (page 3-2) for disease susceptibility of some suggested scab-resistant apple cultivars for Virginia.
