butterfly bushes

Post by bpyler » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:08 pm

Is there a butterfly bush that stays more compact? I want to put them around my deck to attract the butterflies but the ones I have down in the back of the yard get tall and gangly even if I cut them almost to the ground every March. I live in Morristown, NJ. thanks.

There is a new dwarf Buddleia called Lo & Behold 'Blue Chip' that is supposed to stay under 3' tall without pruning. Another choice might be Buddleia 'White Ball' which grows to about 3' tall. These cultivars are about the shortest that are available right now. 'Petite Plum' and 'Adonis Blue' are a little taller and grow to about 5'. 'Blue Chip' is by far the shortest and can be grown successfully in containers if desired. Hope this helps.
