Live Oak

Post by CarolN » Fri Dec 23, 2011 9:13 am

I recently vacationed in New Orleans and picked up some live oak acorns. I live in Dutchess County, New York. Will they grow up here?

Thanks,
Carol

No, live oaks (Quercus virginiana) are marginally hardy even in Zone 7. Depending on where you are in Dutchess County, you are either Zone 5b or 6a. This is truly a southern species and will not survive your winters in New York. Sorry!
