Re: Shrubs for birds

Hi Lori, Yeah, we always joke that the deer by us can't read - they don't know what they're not supposed to like! I've tried the repellents, alternating between two with different ingredients, and I swear, the deer come by, and they say to themselves, "Hmm, she's trying to keep us away, it must be e...

Shrubs for birds

I live in Dutchess County, New York. I have areas in my garden where shrubs were growing but they have been completely taken over by some horrid vining weeds. This fall/winter I will remove everything and start again in the spring. I will have about six 10' wide areas to replant. I would like sugges...

Tomato Success

Lori, I have to thank you, Andre, and Mark for my wonderful tomato crop this year. I have a relatively small area where I plant my vegetable garden. I rotate in quadrants. Hasn't made a difference, blight always got the better of me. This year I took your advice and sprayed them alternately with Fun...

Re: Rhubarb

Maybe I did unwittingly get a green variety. I bought the plant only 3 or 4 years ago. I split it and transplanted it last year because I wasn't happy with it, and it is still seed pod happy. I may cut a few pieces and bring it to the place I bought it from, maybe they can identify it. This thing is...

Rhubarb

I live in Dutchess County, New York.

I have a rhubarb plant that continuously puts up flower spikes, even though I cut them to the ground, and the stalks never turn red. Is there a variety that exhibits these characteristics? If not, is there something I can do to break the cycle?

Thanks,
Carol

Vole - Mole repellent

Lori, Please tell Andre that there are no Juicy Fruit candies. He talks about using Juicy Fruit gum in the runs. A caller a couple of weeks ago suggested that Jujubes candy may also work. Listening to Andre talk yesterday, he referred to Juicy Fruit candies. These are what the caller suggested: http...

I'm in Dutchess County, New York. I was listening to the radio show this weekend when Andre recommended using copper, funginal and mancozeb to help reduce the possibility of late blight. What he didn't say was when to start the program, how many weeks between applications or how many times the rotat...
