Limp iris stems

I have regular bearded iris in several places on the property, all in full sun, uncrowded. I did not fertilize last year but all have healthy, green leaves. Now they are beginning to bloom and about 3/4 of the stems are drooping into a U-shape, i.e, down and then back up. Please advise as to a cause...
